Lazio Fallout Opens Door for Everton to Sign Luis Alberto in Cut-Price Deal

As internal tensions continue to rise at Serie A club Lazio, Everton have been linked with a move for a former Liverpool playmaker.

Luis Alberto has been the subject of intense media coverage lately after a public scandal in which he critiqued the club’s decision to buy its own private jet.

Despite being recognised as a crucial part of the Lazio set-up, his strained relationship with a handful of senior board members at the Rome-baed club has meant that he could be put up for sale, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.

As a result, Everton could be in line for a cut-price deal for the attacking midfielder. Competition will not be light, however, as reports have indicated that Serie A giants Inter Milan and Juventus will rival the Toffees for Alberto’s signature.

The playmaker, who is now 28 years old, joined Lazio for just £3.6m, having never found his feet at Anfield after his switch from Sevilla.

Since moving to Rome from England when he was still a rising star, Alberto has featured in a total of 143 matches in all competitions, being directly involved in 71 goals in that time for Lazio.

Everton may well be the beneficiaries of this public fallout as they look to secure an experienced playmaker in January.

Alberto could be a good experienced alternative to reported long-term target Isco if Everton are unable to bring the Real Madrid man to Merseyside.

Recent reports indicated that Real Madrid would indeed accept the projected advances that Everton are likely to make, but this is nonetheless a potentially fruitful development.
