Everton Eye January Swoop for Dele Alli and Harry Winks

Having already bolstered their midfield with summer signings Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez (although he has been played on the wing), it seems Everton’s spending spree in that position may continue as the Toffees eye two English talents.

According to exclusive reports from Football Insider, Everton are looking at Tottenham’s Dele Alli and Harry Winks – both of whom are experienced England internationals who started in the 2019 Champions League final under Mauricio Pochettino.

The report added that the Merseysiders are ‘expected to be active in the new year even though their budget is restricted after more heavy spending in the last window’, even against the backdrop of the global economic situation. Everton are likely to concentrate on the loan market and cut-price deals in the January window

That opens the door for the Spurs duo to make a switch to Goodison Park, as their prominence in Jose Mourinho’s plans has been lost in recent months. Both Alli and Winks have found themselves demoted in the pecking order and may find themselves hungry for renewed game-time.

Given the out-of-favour nature of the two players, they could be allowed to leave by Spurs either on short-term deals or for discounted transfer fees.

As much as that seems to suit the Toffees’ transfer policy, it could also spell doom for the future of the Toffees’ own less essential midfielders. The likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Tom Davies were linked with moves away in the summer, and these development could accelerate their potential departures.
