Everton’s Anthony Gordon Tipped for Loan Move

Everton youngster Anthony Gordon could be on his way out of Goodison Park in January as former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has tipped him for a loan exit.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 41-year-old claims that Gordon’s departure could come as part of a wider reshuffle within the club.

The 19-year-old impressed Carlo Ancelotti towards the end of the 2019/20 season and has so far made 16 senior appearances for the Toffees. including a start in the Merseyside derby six months ago.

However, the rising star has found first team opportunities limited so far this season, and he has only started in the Carabao Cup (as per Transfermarkt). This is despite a rising injury list at Everton, with the team having only won one of their last seven league games.

It is for this reason that Robinson called upon Gordon to be loaned out, telling Football Insider:

I think a loan move is potentially best for Gordon and club. With the window coming up there is going to be interest.

We are going to see Everton go into the market again next month. They have been poor these past few weeks and I think their squad depth has been really put to the test and exposed.

Everton have a very strong starting eleven and they started the season well but a couple of injuries to their full-backs have seen them struggle. The starting eleven is fantastic but there is not that strength in depth.

I do not think Gordon will be the only one leaving in January, I think there will be movement in and out of Goodison. Ancelotti will re-shuffle his pack. He needs to strengthen.

With just 32 league minutes to his name this season, it may well be in Gordon’s best interests to search for more minutes elsewhere as he looks to further his personal development.

At just 19, there is no rush for Gordon to force himself into Everton’s first team plans. A spell in a league such as the Championship may prove a real litmus test for how ready he is for the demands of regular senior football at Premier League level.
