Everton may face intense competition in January from Carlo Ancelotti’s former side AC Milan for a top Toffees target in Lazio playmaker Luis Alberto.
Journalist Alessandro Jacobone recently reported that the Rossoneri have held talks with the player agency YouFirst over two key issues; a contract renewal for Davide Calabria but also over the availability of Luis Alberto, who is said to be ‘in crisis’ at Lazio.
The Serie A side has been in the spotlight for a public fallout between Alberto and a number of senior officials at the Rome-based club.
The player had previously slammed the club’s decision to buy its own private jet in the midst of the current economic crisis – leading to claims that Lazio are keen to sell.
Another Italian journalist, Ilario Di Giovambattista, claimed that the Toffees’ manager Carlo Ancelotti has specifically requested the signing of Alberto from Lazio in a major boost to the Toffees.
Enamoured with the £45 million-valued playmaker, it is no surprise that Ancelotti wants to bring Alberto to Goodison Park.
The Spaniard has notched up 27 goals and 45 assists in just under 150 appearances since joining from Liverpool in 2016 for less than £4 million.
Indeed, a move to Goodison Park would not be Alberto’s first stint on Merseyside after having come up through the Liverpool academy. He failed to break into first-team plans and was allowed to leave early on in his fledgling career.

There is little upside to Milan’s interest in the player.
Milan may hold a key trump card in the fact that they are a fellow Serie A side.
Alberto is used to the Italian game and may prefer the opulence of Milan and an Italian stay rather than the risk of relocating back to Merseyside.
