Everton’s long-standing links to Juventus outcast Sami Khedira look almost certain to have some weight behind them after recent reports named the length of contract which has been offered to the former Germany international.
According to the Daily Express, the Toffees have lined up an 18-month contract to be offered to the midfielder’s entourage. That deal would keep him at Goodison Park until the end of the 2021/22 season.
However, the report added that Juventus are desperate to get Khedira’s £184,000-a-week wages off their books. This means a significant pay cut is an obstacle which needs to be overcome if the midfielder is to link up with his former manager Carlo Ancelotti.
In an exciting development, the report claimed that the player was given permission to travel to England earlier this week, where he was in talks to work towards agreeing a deal with the Merseyside outfit.
Ancelotti is reportedly keen to reunite with Khedira, who is out of contract in the summer, with the belief that the 33-year-old has plenty to offer his side.
The report concluded that adding Champions League experience to the Everton side is to be a key theme of the Toffees’ business – a desire which appears to be manifesting itself with this latest news.

At 33 years of age, some may question the longevity of Khedira and how he could fit into a long-term plan at Goodison Park.
Wages look to be the key ingredient to any deal, as the club would surely have no desire to sustain a player edging closer to retirement on the wages of a player in their prime years, although Khedira will likely be desperate to just get back playing football.
