It was a mixed bag of emotions for many loyal Everton fans after last night’s 1-1 stalemate with Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City.
Summer signing James Rodriguez stole the show with a scintillating curled effort from just outside of the box finding its way into the back of the net. However, the second half whittled down even the staunchest of optimistic Toffees into frustration as a sloppy error from Jordan Pickford gifted an equaliser to Leicester’s Youri Tielemans.
A tight effort navigated through a congested penalty area, but Pickford’s touch was poor and allowed the ball to ricochet into the net.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who was close to finding a late winner for the Toffees, found himself as an unusual receptacle for the post-match chagrin of many Everton fans.
The 23-year-old summed up the match in succinct style on Twitter, with the verdict of ‘A point. Plenty of positives’ accompanied by an image of he and some team-mates embracing Rodriguez after his sumptuous goal.
It was that short reflection on the game which proved surprisingly provocative, garnering a broad spectrum of reactions from Everton fans.
These Toffees took to Twitter to have their say on Calvert-Lewin’s tweet, with one branding the striker as “lazy” on a night when he had just 32 touches, the fewest of any Everton starter against the Foxes (WhoScored).
