Fans praise Tom Davies after Old Trafford draw

Everton’s official Twitter account was keen to draw attention to an unlikely hero in the form of Tom Davies in the dramatic 3-3 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday night.

The Toffees academy product put in a commanding display in midfield and the club drew attention to some revealing individual statistics as Davies made four clearances and two interceptions while also winning four duels and posting a passing completion rate of 90% (Sofascore).

Proving to be a dogged defensive presence as much as a dynamic playmaker, the club’s tweet certainly portrayed a picture of Davies as a man on whom Carlo Ancelotti could rely to pull the strings in midfield.

Before publishing some key metrics surrounding Davies’ performance, the club also tweeted an appreciation post which duly delivered in terms of drumming up affection from many fans.

Many Everton fans were quick to heap praise on their homegrown midfield talent as he underlined his recent importance to the Toffees’ cause. One took a dig at their local rivals by declaring Davies to be “better than Thiago” as the Spaniard struggled in Liverpool’s thrashing by Manchester City yesterday, losing seven of his 12 duels and giving the ball away 12 times (Sofascore).

matchday.
