Everton academy product and England under-21 international Tom Davies has boldly proclaimed that the Toffees are looking to challenge for a top four finish this season in a rallying call to all at the club.
Davies was refreshingly open over the squad’s ambitious seasonal targets in the wake of their 3-3 draw against title contenders Manchester United at the weekend.
Yielding a point at Old Trafford saw the Toffees extend their unbeaten run on the road to seven games, placing them firmly in the race for a European spot next season. Indeed, they are only three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool and have two games in hand on their ailing Merseyside rivals.
The result was certainly an emboldening one for the Toffees, who will look to tomorrow’s FA Cup clash with Tottenham as another prime opportunity to show their true capabilities.
Speaking to Everton’s official website, Davies believes that the unpredictability of this Premier League season opens the door to a unique opportunity for the Toffees to seize upon, saying:
Top four has got to be our goal because it’s an unusual season. We put in a good performance again today against a team challenging for the top.
If we keep doing that and taking points off the so-called bigger sides, keep our form in the games we should be winning and get the points there, then the top four is definitely a target.
