Everton fans debate man of the match from FA Cup epic

Everton’s FA Cup clash with Tottenham was not short of tantalising drama as the Toffees edged past Jose Mourinho’s side 5-4 after extra time.

The nine-goal rollercoaster would undoubtedly have had many Toffees on the edge of their seats with such a frantic shift in advantages between both sides.

Indeed, Carlo Ancelotti’s side were off to a rocky start after a tame set piece routine early in the match saw Davinson Sanchez guide a header past Robin Olsen, but quickfire goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson respectively had the Toffees in command before the interval.

That lead was steadily undone, leaving the game at 4-4 at the end of the 90 minutes before a 97th-minute dinked ball found its way to Bernard, who slotted past Hugo Lloris in style to ensure the Toffees would advance to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

With an abundance of goals, plenty of hard-working dogged displays and a hat-trick of assists for Gylfi Sigurdsson, there were plenty of players worthy of plaudits for their resilient performances.

Many Everton fans took to Twitter to dissect the drama, arguing who they felt deserved the club’s Man of the Match award. Tom Davies was the eventual winner, but the discourse among Everton fans shows that such a verdict was anything but unanimous…
