Everton ‘ready’ to sign Adrien Rabiot in the summer

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti intends to re-ignite his interest in France midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to France Football [via GFFN].

The 25-year-old Juventus man has been a long-term Toffees target as the Italian looks to bolster his options in the middle of the park. Ancelotti enjoys something of a personal relationship with Rabiot, having played a major role in uncovering his talents during his tenure as the manager of Paris Saint-Germain.

It is noted that Everton made several attempts to acquire the Frenchman last summer, likely through Ancelotti’s prerogative, and the player himself is open to a move. Rabiot appears to be unsettled in Turin and could be open to a fresh challenge in the Premier League, as his happiness ‘continues to waver’ with the Old Lady of Italian football.

Calciomercato have quoted an equivalent fee of £26m demanded by Juventus, with Everton reportedly accepting that figure. According to France Football, the Toffees have indicated they are ‘ready to do anything’ to bring Rabiot to Goodison Park.

That interest comes in spite of Everton’s current wealth of midfield options. Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure were signed last summer, whilst Andre Gomes and Tom Davies are other options in midfield.

Rabiot has 12 starts in Serie A this season with one goal to his name.

With Jean-Philippe Gbamin kept out from the team due to serious and recurring injury problems, Everton have five more midfield alternatives – and that excludes the likes of the more attack-minded Gylfi Sigurdsson and James Rodriguez.

The £25m signing from Mainz could suffer a more abstract setback as he could be one of a handful of players offloaded to make way for Rabiot.

Everton’s summer business renders the Toffees well-stocked, and it is hard to see Rabiot being sufficiently accommodated without a major summer clear-out of more peripheral midfield options. Therefore, Gbamin could be one man featuring for his future at Goodison Park.
