Everton could be in line for a timely double boost after Carlo Ancelotti delivered an injury update on Allan and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Speaking in advance of the Toffees’ clash with Merseyside rivals Liverpool on Saturday, the Italian cleared the two stalwarts as likely to be available for the derby.
Having returned to training, midfield enforcer Allan appears ready to go and should be up to speed for the match as he looks to command the middle of the park. Plus, after a short period ruled out with injury, Toffees’ top scorer Calvert-Lewin will also be available to return to action in a significant boost to the Blues’ offensive prospects.
In a further addition, Ancelotti confirmed that Allan, who was in the squad to face Fulham last Sunday, missed out entirely against Manchester City in order to take extra time to train. No guarantees were made, but that could be a notable development indicative of Ancelotti’s intention to start the 30-year-old against Liverpool.
Ancelotti cautioned his comments with a note that Allan starting for Everton is a ‘hope’ and not a certainty, but fans will nonetheless be intrigued by the news as the manager told evertontv:
We preferred to give Allan one day training instead of staying on the bench [against Manchester City]. He trained today and we hope he will be available for Saturday – to start. Also, Calvert-Lewin, I think, can start.
However, Ancelotti ruled out Yerry Mina after the Colombian sustained a calf strain early on in the City clash, so the likes of Ben Godfrey or Mason Holgate could be forced to come into the centre of defence.
