Journalist Oliver Kay has issued some disparaging claims over policy at Everton with regards to the hunt for their next manager.
Following a breakdown in talks with Crystal Palace, former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo is now close to reaching an agreement with the Toffees to take the reins at Goodison Park.
The Portuguese tactician is set to be appointed ‘this week’ following constructive negotiations, having spent the previous four years in the midlands.
However, Kay remained unconvinced by the appointment, with the senior journalist at The Athletic feeling that the appointment is a rushed one based on availability rather than total acumen.
“Clubs should always have a clear view of what kind of manager they want next”, claimed the writer.
“The vision might evolve over time and so will the names, but it should never just be a case of “Who’s available?” […] Nuno’s fine, but there’s no way Everton would have paid to get him out of Wolves.”
In a further addition to the club, Everton are also reportedly on the verge of signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes.
Nunes will reportedly cost Everton an initial £15.45million (€20m), with bonuses taking the deal up to £17.17m (€20m).

A double coup is superficially good news, but the speed at which Santo’s entourage switched focus from Selhurst Park to Goodison Park is somewhat eyebrow-raising.
Crystal Palace were reportedly unwilling to accept hefty demands over the contracts of backroom staff, meaning Everton have almost certainly either made concessions in that department or elsewhere.
In that view, Evertonians must hope they were not exploited too punitively by the demands of agents.
