Kevin Campbell Backs Everton Youngster Nathan Broadhead for Move

Former Everton and Arsenal hitman Kevin Campbell has warned that young Toffees prospect Nathan Broadhead should expect a loan move.

The Wales youth international recently penned fresh terms at Goodison Park that will keep the versatile attacker at the club until 2023.

Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell discussed the youngster’s short-term future:

“It’s either next season [that he breaks into the side] or he goes on loan and does it in the Championship or League One, I think that’s the key.

“He’s obviously got great talent but Everton are a club who are looking to really progress. When you think about it, with eight games to go, Everton could have qualified for the Champions League.

“But if the new manager comes in and fancies him then obviously he is going to get his opportunity.

“But if he doesn’t and he wants to go with more experience then the young man might have to go out on loan and do it there, but either way, he’s a talented young kid.”

The Bangor-born 23-year-old is adept in numerous offensive positions and can play on either wing and as a centre-forward.

Mainly deployed as a left-winger, Broadhead made a Premier League cameo last season and has been capped 18 times for Wales’ under-21s side.

At 23 years of age, Broadhead will need to settle in a first-team – at Everton or elsewhere – sooner rather than later.

His status as a youth prospect is fading quickly, with the youngster having only made 24 senior appearances – 22 of which were on loan at Burton Albion.

A new manager wields the potential to shake up the club’s approach to its youth, but Everton’s ambitions for regular European football only raises the threshold required for prospects to make the first-team grade.

Given that Carlo Ancelotti personally agitated for a new deal for Broadhead, yet did not offer further opportunities, it is unclear as to whether Broadhead can shake up first-team plans.

It is difficult to see Broadhead having an Everton future without significant exposure in the squad or in a challenging league on loan next season.
