Former Everton striker Kevin Campbell has backed Salomon Rondon to be raring to go and grasp his chance with both hands when the Toffees take on Norwich City today.

The ex-Arsenal hitman believes the Venezuela international has the perfect opportunity to stake a place in Rafa Benitez’ new-look Everton side with injuries to key personnel plaguing the squad.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison are both out with minor injuries and are set to miss the clash with the Canaries, leaving Rondon as the sure-fire candidate to start up front against Daniel Farke’s side.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said:

“He’s got the games out of his system.

“It’s a home game against Norwich and that’s one that you definitely want to play in, that’s for sure. Home game, be on the front foot, opportunities to score.

“I’m sure he’s really looking forward to that game.”

Benitez and his close association with Rondon means that the acquisition of the experienced striker is inextricably tied to the tactician’s influence.

Having worked together at Newcastle and in China, the reunion means Rondon cannot afford to squander his limelight role against Norwich.

He was surely brought in knowing full well he was only to serve in a backup capacity to star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been in fine form with 3 league goals in as many games this season.

He also hit 16 goals in just 33 outings in the previous campaign under Carlo Ancelotti, and Rondon has plenty to prove if he is to meaningfully lead the line in future fixtures.
