Everton winger Anthony Gordon was heavily linked with a move away from the Merseyside club during the previous summer transfer window as fellow Premier League side Chelsea were reportedly willing to pay £60m to sign him.

Now though, recent reports have claimed that the Toffees are trying to tie the Englishman down to a new deal at Goodison Park, with the player himself looking to get £100k-per-week to do so.

This has since caught the attention of talkSPORT pundit, Gabby Agbonlahor, who had this to say to Football Insider about the situation and whether he feels Gordon has done enough to deserve to be on a contract with those wages.

He said: “I don’t feel he has.

“This is the problem with football at the moment. These crazy contracts are being thrown out to players that haven’t done enough.

“How many goals does he have in the Premier League? How many assists has he got?

“Because he’s had some good games where he shows energy and commitment, is that enough for £100,000-a-week? I don’t think it is.

“Football is a bit crazy now. Footballers are being average and getting these crazy contracts.

“Everton will look at and think that because they want to keep him and other teams are after him, they’ve got no choice.”

After making 57 combined appearances for Everton’s U18 and U21 sides, during which he scored 24 goals and delivered 10 assists, the 21-year-old has now made 70 senior appearances for the Toffees across all competitions.

As Agbonlahor questioned, Gordon has scored six goals and delivered three assists in 59 Premier League appearances, which, on the face of it, makes it easy to see why he thinks the winger doesn’t deserve to be on the sort of wages that have been mentioned in reports.

Either way, with his current contract not set to expire until 2025, if the club do want to offer him a new deal, then they’ll have to come to an agreement with the player with terms that are suitable for both parties.
