- The ban on gambling sponsors for the PL takes effect at start of the 2026-27 season.
- CMC Markets was a spread-betting company, but now a financial services provider.
- Second season in Hill Dickinson with a new sponsor and European football?
Everton’s existing shirt sponsorship deal with Stake is set to expire at the end of the current campaign. The timing coincides with a Premier League‑wide ban on gambling firms appearing on the front of shirts.
The ban comes into effect for the 2026‑27 season. Clubs across the division are searching for new sponsors, and Everton are now closing in on their replacement.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton are in talks with financial services firm CMC Markets. The club is exploring potential shirt sponsors for next season. A deal with CMC Markets is one of the avenues being explored.
The company is a London‑based outfit that provides trading and spread betting services. It is run by Lord Cruddas, who was once the Conservative Party’s treasurer.
A deal worth tens of millions for Everton
Any agreement would likely be worth tens of millions over the course of a multi‑year arrangement. The club’s existing deal with Stake, signed in 2022, was pitched by the club as the biggest shirt sponsorship deal in its history.
Sky News reported that Everton are close to striking an agreement with CMC Markets. The deal is reported to be worth £50m. The potential agreement could be signed within a matter of weeks, though other unnamed sponsors are still monitoring the situation and could attempt to hijack talks.
CMC Markets is also in similar discussions with Fulham regarding the sponsorship.
Why CMC Markets is interested
Sky News added that CMC Markets deems Everton to be an “ideal sponsorship target” because of the demographic of the fanbase.
The Friedkin Group chose to switch agencies from Elevate to Ranger Sport in the hope of an improved search for a new front‑of‑shirt sponsor. The change now looks to be close to finding one. David Moyes‘ side are pushing for European qualification, which would definitely raise Everton’s international visibility.
The ban on gambling sponsors has created a competitive market for new shirt deals. Many Premier League clubs are expecting their front‑of‑shirt sponsors to rake in less revenue for them next campaign, with competition to find one rife.
Nothing has been finalised yet, but talks are at an advanced stage. If the deal is completed, Everton will enter their new stadium’s second season with a new commercial partner and the prospect of European football on the horizon.
