- Southampton’s Shea Charles has attracted Premier League-level attention.
- Northern Ireland international named as a potential target for Everton.
- He has played 28 times this season and scored four goals for the Saints.
David Moyes has orchestrated a marvellous turnaround at Everton, and he will want to consolidate on the work he has produced.
With the end of the season fast approaching, the Toffees will now consider their options in the transfer market, and multiple names have already been floated.
Moyes has a history of plucking from the Championship and nurturing them into becoming high-level Premier League players, and this trend could continue next season.
Shea Charles linked with a move to Hill Dickinson Stadium
Southampton’s FA Cup quarter final victory against league leaders Arsenal will go down as one of the great modern-day upsets.
After Viktor Gyokeres levelled affairs for his side in the 68th minute, it looked as though the Gunners would grab a decisive winner.
But five minutes before stoppage time, Charles’ right footed striked sent his team to Wembley and secured a famous victory.
Since then, the Daily Mail have reported the 22-year-old is now being scouted by Everton as a potential addition for this summer’s transfer window.
However, Southampton remain firmly in the race for the Championship play-offs, and a return to the Premier League could halt a move for the midfielder.
Charles has a similar profile to James Garner
James Garner has been a standout player for the Toffees this year and was recently rewarded with his senior England debut.
On top of his skills on and off the ball, Garner’s ability to play in multiple areas of the pitch makes him even more valuable for Moyes and his side.
At only 22 years old, Charles has proven his ability to play in both holding and central midfield roles, as well as across the defensive line.
Last season, he was sent on loan to Sheffield Wednesday and was awarded their player of the season after playing 44 games in all competitions for them.
After three consecutive seasons in the Championship, the ex-Manchester City academy player has matured into a confident operator and is one of the key men in Northern Ireland’s national side.
The midfield department at Everton is stacked with a multitude of options, so a move to the Blues would offer Charles a serious challenge, but his ability to play in various positions could make him an extremely handy addition.
