  • Everton and Leicester City were relegation rivals in 2023.
  • Toffees now pushing for Europe, while Foxes languish near bottom of the Championship.
  • Everton have their eyes on promising Foxes winger Abdul Fatawu.

Three years ago Everton and Leicester City were both scrapping to preserve their Premier League status.

Since then the Foxes have been promoted from and relegated to the Championship and look to be crashing down into League One.

Everton on the other hand are making a push for European football and expanding commercial operations within the club.

The contrast between the two is huge, and as the Toffees continue to develop, they hope to take advantage of Leicester’s misfortunes and swoop for one of their stars.

Abdul Fatawu linked with Everton

Abdul Fatawu was a key man in Leicester’s championship-winning season and has been linked as a potential purchase for David Moyes’ side, according to Football Insider.

He has registered 97 appearances for the Midlands outfit since making a move from Sporting CP in 2023.

The Ghanaian international only featured 11 times in the 2024-25 Premier League season after suffering a cruel ACL injury in November.

Although his experience in England’s top flight is thin, he highlighted his potential on his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur, after assisting Jamie Vardy in a 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium.

Where does Abdul Fatawu fit in the Everton side?

Moyes has a history of scouting talent from the Championship and letting them thrive in the top tier.

It would be unfair to look at Fatawu on the surface and disregard him since he is part of a side that is likely to drop down to League One.

Leicester does not seem like a nice place to play, and with the toxicity and financial troubles that linger there, it would be tough for any player to feel confident about their game.

Fatawu has registered pretty impressive stats for a struggling Championship team, and after missing out on a large portion of his Premier League debut season, he will want another crack at showcasing his talents in the top tier.

But Moyes will likely consider his current options on the wing, and with 20-year-old Tyler Dibling struggling to get any game time, it might prove too difficult for Fatawu to break into the Everton side.
