  • Everton still have eyes on Fatawu as a wide option for next season.
  • The competition, at the moment, is between Everton and Sunderland.
  • Moyes likes Fatawu’s profile and European football may be on offer.

Everton are still interested in securing a deal to lure Abdul Fatawu to the Hill Dickinson. With Leicester City edging closer to relegation, the Foxes are planning to cash in on the winger. However, the Blues have to battle a Premier League club for their transfer target.

According to Football Insider, Everton and Sunderland are now the frontrunners for the 22-year-old. As the East Midlands side is likely to drop into League One, the Ghanaian is looking for moves elsewhere. However, the Black Cats had come close to signing him last summer. But the player decided to stay and help Leicester chase promotion.

Manager David Moyes is also rekindling his previous interest in the player and has added Fatawu to his summer transfer window wishlist, reports TeamTalk.

Everton faces competition from Sunderland

The Merseyside club and the Wearside outfit look to be going head-to-head for the youngster. This transfer battle between the two Premier League clubs shows their admiration for Fatawu.

Premier League football is guaranteed for Sunderland next season. This means manager Régis Le Bris should build a young, high-upside attacking unit, and Fatawu could be one of those players, according to Sunderland Echo.

On the other hand, Moyes has European ambitions for next season and plans to add squad depth. With McNeil’s future doubtful at Everton and questions still lingering about Chelsea loanee George, the Ghanaian international looks like an interesting option for the Merseysiders.

How will Everton plan to fit Fatawu?

The 22-year-old has provided rare moments of hope for the Leicester side in crisis. Besides, he was considered a top asset by the club, scoring 16 goals in 97 appearances across loan and permanent spells.

Everton are keen to add more firepower on the wings despite trying to keep hold of loanees Jack Grealish and Tyrique George next season, suggests TeamTalk.

The Foxes are at risk of losing the player, with his £30 million clause unlikely to hold as his price could fall to £20 million this summer. TeamTalk reports suggest that the Ghana player was on Everton’s radar last year, but the club chose to bring in Tyler Dibling from Southampton, after Leicester’s demands were high.

However, times have changed. Leicester is in financial turmoil, having points deducted for breaching the EFL’s profit and sustainability rules. And with relegation to League One from the Championship, literally, certain letting go of players would be their only option.

Only a European finish would hand Everton a decisive edge over Sunderland in the race for the youngster, potentially proving the difference in where his future lies.
