- Youssouf Fofana is wanted by Everton, Galatasaray, Lyon and Marseille
- The French midfielder is valued at £21.5 million by AC Milan
- David Moyes is looking to replace Idrissa Gueye in the midfield
Everton’s summer transfer plans are already taking shape. Alongside the reported interest in an English quartet of Jack Grealish, John Stones, Ben White and Liam Delap, David Moyes is also looking to strengthen his midfield.
With Idrissa Gueye turning 36 and reportedly unsure about a new contract offer, and other options like Merlin Rohl failing to play regularly, a fresh face in the engine room is a priority.
According to Calciomercato, Everton are now interested in AC Milan’s Youssouf Fofana.
The 27‑year‑old French midfielder has been a regular starter for Milan this season, making 29 Serie A appearances, totalling 1,990 minutes this season. He has contributed two goals and three assists. He averages 1.1 key passes per game and has created five big chances. Defensively, he makes 1.3 tackles and 0.5 interceptions per match, with a pass completion rate of 83%.
Fofana’s valuation and competition
Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo provided an update on the situation. “Turning to the midfield, it’s important to keep an eye on potential developments involving Fofana, who is being targeted by Everton, Lyon, Marseille, and Galatasaray. Allegri would like to keep him in the squad, but if an offer exceeding €25 million arrives, the club would give the green light to his sale.”
The price tag will be particularly intriguing for Everton. Fofana has made 84 appearances across two seasons for Milan, contributing 3 goals and 13 assists. He is a box‑to‑box presence who would complement James Garner, who has been one of Everton’s most consistent performers. With Gueye approaching the end of his career, Moyes needs a reliable partner for Garner and Fofana fits the profile.
Why Everton need Youssouf Fofana
Idrissa Gueye is reportedly being offered a new contract, but the midfielder is unsure at the time. Even if he stays, he cannot be relied upon for every game. Other options, including Merlin Rohl, have not played regularly and have failed to impress. Moyes needs to make changes in the midfield department with or without Gueye.
Fofana has Serie A and Champions League experience and would bring energy, physicality and tactical discipline to Everton’s midfield. At 27, he is entering his prime. The competition from Lyon, Marseille and Galatasaray is real, but Everton’s ambitious summer plans and an expected big budget could give them an edge, particularly if European football is secured.
With four games remaining, Everton’s focus remains on the pitch and Europe for the next season. But behind the scenes, the great summer transfer plan is already underway. Youssouf Fofana is very much on the radar for Everton.
