  • Ayase Ueda has scored 26 goals across all competitions this season
  • Tottenham, Leeds United and Brighton also interested in Japan international
  • Ueda’s playing style clearly suits the Premier League

Everton’s need for a forward is clear. Beto has found form in recent weeks, but Thierno Barry has struggled for consistency, and with European football potentially on the horizon next season, David Moyes will need more than two senior strikers.

According to TeamTalk, Everton plan to bring in a new right‑back, left‑back, centre‑back, midfielder, and winger this summer. A striker will entirely depend upon how much they spent on othe positions but it is certainly a necessity if Everton are to push for consistent European places.

TeamTalk reports that Everton are tracking Feyenoord’s Ayase Ueda, who is having a remarkable campaign in the Eredivisie.

The 27-year-old arrived at Feyenoord in 2023 for a club-record £8.7m. After a modest return of 12 goals across his first two seasons, Ueda has exploded this term. Under the guidance of head coach Robin van Persie, a legendary striker himself,  the Japanese forward has netted 26 goals across all competitions for the Dutch side.

A season of career-best numbers for Ayase Ueda

Ueda has started 29 of his league appearances, playing 2,357 minutes. His 25 league goals come from an Expected Goals (xG) of 17.88, indicating a brilliant campaign up front. He averages a goal every 94 minutes.

The striker is strong in finishing, long shots and aerial duels. He has scored nine headers and is comfortable with both feet. His physicality and technical attributes are well-suited to the Premier League.

Ueda is explosive in his sprints, gets fouled often, and is an indirect set‑piece threat. His playing style won’t need much tailoring for the Premier League.

At the international level, Ueda has 16 goals in 38 appearances for Japan.

Why Ayase Ueda fits Everton’s needs

Beto has been in good form recently, but he needs reliable backup, especially if Everton qualify for Europe and face more fixtures. Barry has shown flashes but has been too inconsistent.

Ueda would provide a different profile of a powerful, aerial‑dominant forward who can hold up the ball and finish from inside the box. His movement and work rate would suit Moyes’ system, and at 27, he is entering his prime.

Feyenoord paid £8.7m for him, but his value has surely increased. With multiple clubs interested, including Tottenham, Brighton and Leeds, his asking price is expected to increase
