- Balazs Toth has eight clean sheets this season for Blackburn.
- Everton has approached the Hungarian goalkeeper.
- Balazs Toth might weigh his chances to be Pickford’s No.2.
Everton have made an approach for Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Balazs Toth, according to Hungarian outlet Csakfoci. The 27‑year‑old has been one of the standout goalkeepers in the Championship this season, drawing interest from clubs in Spain, Italy, and Germany, as well as Premier League rivals Bournemouth.
Csakfoci reports that Everton are the only team to have specifically approached the player so far.
The Toffees are planning for the summer transfer window, and a backup goalkeeper is on David Moyes’ list. Toth, who has a year remaining on his Blackburn contract, could be available for a reasonable fee. His 33 league appearances this season (all starts) have produced 89 saves and eight clean sheets, with 58 of those saves coming from inside the box.
The Balazs Toth dilemma: quality deputy or starter?
While Toth’s numbers are impressive, the Hungarian international’s primary desire is regular first‑team football. According to the report, his number one priority right now is to consistently play. That presents a problem. At Everton, Jordan Pickford is one of the first names on the teamsheet.
The England number one has missed only a handful of Premier League games in nearly a decade. Any goalkeeper arriving at Hill Dickinson Stadium would almost certainly be a deputy, featuring only in cup competitions or if Pickford gets injured.
Toth might therefore view Everton as a less attractive option than a club where he could compete for the number one jersey. Bournemouth, for instance, have had uncertainty in goal, and a move to the Cherries could offer him regular minutes.
The Hungarian has proven his consistency in the Championship with Blackburn and his shot‑stopping ability is evident. But can he accept a bench role?
What the stats say about Balazs Toth
Toth has made 33 Championship appearances this season, keeping eight clean sheets. He has made 89 saves in total, with 58 from inside the box. His distribution stats are less prominent, but he has shown reliability as a traditional shot‑stopper. Standing at 6ft 4in, he commands his area well.
For Everton, the appeal is that of a proven, relatively young goalkeeper who could be signed for a modest fee. With Pickford turning 32, having a capable deputy is extremely important. However, Toth’s ambition to play regularly could be a stumbling block.
Unless Everton can offer him a clear pathway, perhaps through cup competitions and the promise of more minutes if European football brings extra fixtures, the Hungarian may look elsewhere.
