Hull City have registered interest in signing Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, with the Toffees willing to sell this summer if their £20m asking price is met.
According to the latest update from Baz Cooper, citing sources close to HDM Hull City, Everton would be open to letting Iroegbunam go, and a fee in the region of £20m isn’t expected to hold up any deal between the two clubs.
It’s the latest twist in a story that’s been quietly building for a while now. We previously reported on Ipswich Town’s interest in Iroegbunam earlier in the window, and his situation looks to be picking up pace again as more clubs join the queue.
Why Everton might let him go
Iroegbunam hasn’t managed to nail down a regular starting spot at the Hill Dickinson since his move from Aston Villa, and with David Moyes still working through his midfield options – Everton remain locked in talks over a separate deal for Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney – a sale wouldn’t come as much of a shock to anyone who’s followed his time at the club.
Twenty million would also be a tidy bit of business, given the financial scrutiny Everton remain under, with their PSR appeal against Burnley still rumbling on in the background.
Hull’s interest brings a new face into a chase that had mostly centred on fellow promoted club Ipswich up to now, and it’s not yet clear whether it will turn into a concrete approach in the coming weeks.
