The 2026 World Cup is now well and truly underway and Everton supporters have four players to keep an eye on.

Senegal’s hopes of a first win were dented earlier in the week when Norway beat them 3-2 in a New Jersey goal-fest, while Scotland’s winning start was ended by Morocco. England beat Croatia in their opener, then followed it up with a goalless draw against Ghana, with Jordan Pickford keeping a clean sheet despite a couple of nervy second-half moments.

ReadEverton will update this tracker throughout the World Cup as Everton’s representatives continue their journeys.

Jordan Pickford (England)

Pickford made his second appearance of the tournament as England were held to a goalless draw by Ghana in Foxborough, a result that leaves Thomas Tuchel’s side still needing a result against Panama to top the group.

The Everton goalkeeper had little to do for long periods as England dominated possession without troubling Benjamin Asare, but was required to act twice when Ghana broke at pace — once when he was adjudged to have been fouled by substitute Prince Kwabena Adu after coming off his line, and again late on when Abdul Fatawu was sent through before Ezri Konsa and Reece James cleared the danger.

A fuller breakdown of his performance is available in our analysis of Pickford’s night in Boston.

It was a second clean sheet of the tournament for Pickford, and a 14th World Cup appearance for England — level with John Stones and second only to Peter Shilton’s 17.

Idrissa Gana Gueye (Senegal)

Gueye started and played the full 90 minutes as Senegal were beaten 3-2 by Norway in a thrilling Group I encounter, with Erling Haaland’s brace either side of a Marcus Holmgren Pedersen opener putting Norway in control before a late Senegal fightback fell just short.

The midfielder was at the heart of that response, combining with Sadio Mane to set up Ismaila Sarr’s first goal, and had a penalty appeal turned down after going down under a heavy aerial challenge from David Moller Wolfe. It capped a difficult week for Senegal, who have now lost two of their three group games and face Iraq needing a big win to stay in contention.

Iliman Ndiaye (Senegal)

Ndiaye was named among the substitutes for the 3-2 defeat to Norway but didn’t get off the bench, with Aliou Cisse instead turning to Ibrahim Mbaye, Ismail Jakobs, Mory Diaw, Pathe Ciss and Pape Matar Sarr as Senegal chased the game.

It means the Everton forward’s appearance tally stays at one for the tournament so far. With Senegal now needing a big win over Iraq to have any realistic hope of progressing, Ndiaye could yet have a part to play in the final group game.

Nathan Patterson (Scotland)

Patterson made his first start of the tournament earlier in the week, recalled at right-back after a late injury ruled out first-choice Aaron Hickey, but couldn’t prevent Scotland slipping to a 1-0 defeat to Morocco.

Steve Clarke’s side had made the perfect start against Haiti, but Morocco’s Ismael Saibari struck inside the opening minute and the goal proved enough to hand the Atlas Lions top spot in Group C.

The defender played 88 minutes before making way for Anthony Ralston, and Scotland now need at least a point against Brazil in their final group game to be sure of qualification.

Everton’s World Cup representation

It’s been a mixed week for Everton’s contingent at the tournament. Senegal’s defeat to Norway leaves both Gueye and Ndiaye needing a big result against Iraq to keep their World Cup alive, while Patterson and Scotland must beat or draw with Brazil to guarantee their own progress after Morocco ended their unbeaten start.

Pickford and England remain unbeaten, with a clean sheet against Ghana following the opening win over Croatia, and the focus now turns to a final group game against Panama that will determine their position heading into the knockout stages.

This page will be updated throughout World Cup 2026 as Everton’s players continue their campaigns.
