Former Everton winger Kevin Kilbane has publicly urged manager David Moyes to launch a summer transfer bid for highly-rated Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott, according to an interview published by the Liverpool Echo.
The 24-year-old striker enjoyed a sensational campaign in the Dutch Eredivisie last season, plundering 31 goals in 48 appearances for AZ Alkmaar alongside six goals on international duty.
Kilbane, who made 121 appearances for the Toffees after being signed by Moyes back in 2003, insists that the former Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate has matured and developed into a quality, elite-level goalscorer in European competition.
Prolific output making waves … but at the Hill Dickinson Stadium?
With David Moyes desperate to bolster his attacking options following a 13th-place finish last season, Parrott’s exceptional 37-goal return makes him a logical target. Not just for the Toffees’ but for anyone looking to increase their goalscoring output.
While acknowledging his old boss may well ignore his advice, Kilbane emphasised that Parrott’s output in the Netherlands is “not a flash in the pan” and he represents genuine Premier League quality.
Given the club’s emphasis on identifying high-ceiling players with, potentially, a sell-on value, and who can fit into Moyes’ system, the Republic of Ireland international could provide a perfect long-term solution to Everton’s final-third potency.
