Everton could get another chance to sign a striker they’ve been linked with for months, with Alexander Sorloth’s stalled move to Juventus reopening a door many had thought closed.
Sorloth has been on Everton’s radar for some time as David Moyes looks to add competition up front, but a switch to Turin appeared to have taken him out of reach after personal terms were agreed.
That deal has since stalled, with Juventus unable to find agreement with Atletico Madrid over a fee, according to reports circulating this week. Sorloth’s stock in England took a hit during a difficult loan spell at Crystal Palace, but his form since returning to Spain has been markedly better.
An audition against Pickford
The timing adds an unusual twist. Norway face England in the World Cup quarter-finals this weekend, putting Sorloth directly up against Jordan Pickford.
Everton are said to view the match as a chance to reassess his level against Premier League opposition, with Newcastle and Fulham also credited with interest should Atletico lower their asking price.
It’s not a new story for Everton, who have circled Sorloth on and off through the window, but the collapse of his Juventus move is the first real development in weeks.
Moyes has already added Tyrique George and Hayden Hackney this summer, with the striker search still running alongside interest in Christian Kofane and uncertainty over Thierno Barry’s future at the club.
