Everton World Cup tracker: Jordan Pickford leads England into the semifinals

Updated following England 2-1 Norway (aet), World Cup quarter-final, Miami, 11 July 2026

Jordan Pickford’s World Cup dream is still alive, and he’s Everton’s last man standing in the World Cup after England beat Norway 2-1 after extra time in Saturday’s quarter-final at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

It sets up a semi-final against Argentina in Atlanta on Wednesday.

England had earlier beaten Mexico 3-2 in the round of 16 in Mexico City to reach the last eight.

Against Norway, Pickford started what was his 18th World Cup appearance, taking him past Peter Shilton’s record of 17 to become England’s most-capped player at the tournament. It was not a straightforward night at the office.

Norway took the lead through Andreas Schjelderup in the 35th minute, and several reports of the match were critical of Pickford’s positioning for the goal.

He recovered to make a series of saves either side of half-time, tipping over an effort from Alexander Sorloth and getting a hand to a header from Erling Haaland, and was part of the defensive unit that survived a Norway goal ruled out by VAR for a foul by Haaland on Elliot Anderson.

Jude Bellingham equalised for England in first-half stoppage time and scored the winning goal three minutes into extra time. It is Pickford’s second clean sheet of this World Cup, added to three at Qatar 2022 and one at Russia 2018.

Pickford is now one win away from a first World Cup final appearance, with England facing reigning champions Argentina in Atlanta on Wednesday, 15 July. ReadEverton will update this tracker again after that match.
