Harvey Foster: “The stuff of dreams” as academy graduate reacts to first Everton goal

Harvey Foster has called scoring on his Everton first-team debut “the stuff of dreams,” speaking to Everton Academy after the club’s 4-0 pre-season win over Dundee on Saturday.

The 19-year-old came off the bench at Dens Park and rolled home Everton’s third after more sloppy goalkeeping from the hosts. It’s his first involvement with the senior side after a strong season at Under-21 level.

Foster was one of several academy players David Moyes used in the opening pre-season game, alongside Will Tamen, Braiden Graham and Malik Olayiwola. Beto, Thierno Barry and Dwight McNeil scored the other goals as Everton won comfortably.

The friendly gave Moyes a look at his squad depth before the campaign proper starts against Bolton Wanderers next Saturday. Several regulars — Jarrad Branthwaite, Hayden Hackney, James Garner and Vitalii Mykolenko among them — were left out or eased back from injury.

For Foster, it’s a goal that should get him noticed. Whether he gets more minutes over the rest of pre-season will say a lot about where he stands in Moyes’ plans for the season ahead.
