Everton’s interest in Jonathan Rowe has moved on from the opening approach reported earlier in the week.
The club have entered firm discussions over a deal for the winger, according to TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey, with David Moyes a long-standing admirer of the 23-year-old.
Everton opened talks on Wednesday, with that report describing discussions as early-stage and no deal close. The picture has changed since. Rowe is now a serious target rather than one of several names being screened, with a £42m price attached.
Bologna hold the stronger hand. Rowe joined from Marseille only last summer and remains under a long-term contract. The Italian club have little reason to sell without a substantial offer, and Everton face competition from elsewhere in the Premier League.
Rowe came through Norwich City’s academy before moves to Marseille and then Bologna. His direct running and threat in one-on-one situations are the qualities said to have caught Moyes’s eye. His end product has been inconsistent, though that is regarded as typical for a player still developing.
Everton have been linked with Rowe since early 2025. This is the clearest sign yet that the interest could turn into a bid.
