Enzo Maresca gave his first comments on Jack Grealish’s future since taking over at Man City, and didn’t confirm a second loan to Everton.
“At the moment he’s here — he’s a City player,” Maresca said. “I always say the same, in any club I’ve joined, if there are players that belong to the club, it’s my duty to try to coach them. Jack, at the moment, is here. I’ve had a good relation with Jack since I left, we’ve kept in touch, and the reason why is because he has a big heart, and he’s a very good guy. And we’ll see what happens.”
Everton have been expected to pursue a second loan for Grealish, with Moyes keen to bring him back after last season’s spell at the Hill Dickinson.
Maresca’s answer neither rules that out nor commits to it — the warmth felt personal, referencing their relationship from his earlier spell at the club, rather than a statement of footballing intent.
City’s midfield picture complicates things either way. Elliot Anderson’s arrival gives Maresca fresh options in the middle of the park, while Rodri’s fitness situation — surgery now confirmed for Monday, with an uncertain return date — leaves squad space that could point in either direction.
It could mean City want Grealish around for depth through a period of midfield uncertainty, or it could mean there’s still room to let a loan proceed if he doesn’t fit into Maresca’s first-XI plans.
For Everton, yet more patience is required. Nothing suggests a swift resolution, and Moyes will likely have to wait for City’s squad picture to settle before Grealish’s next move becomes clear.
