Abdoulaye Doucoure says Everton are targeting a trophy this season

Abdoulaye Doucoure has revealed the reasons why the Everton squad is optimistic about their chances at lifting silverware this season ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup clash with Manchester United.

The Toffees must undoubtedly be buoyed with confidence, having won their last three games against tricky opponents in Leicester, Chelsea and Arsenal in an impressive run.

The league results have seen Ancelotti’s men move into a Champions League spot, only eclipsed by their upcoming Carabao Cup opponents in third place on goal difference.

Ahead of tonight’s clash, Doucoure has opened up on the desire and self-belief of the Everton squad, indicating they feel they can beat any opponent and play without fear. He told Everton TV:

These last three wins are very good for our confidence. We know we can beat anyone in this league. We proved that already… we beat Tottenham in the first game of the season and we just beat three big teams.

United is another one and we want to beat them on Wednesday. The manager told us the importance of the game and we are going to give 100 per cent, always.

We believe we can win a trophy this season.

Everton lost to the Red Devils at Goodison Park last month but, following their turnaround in form since then, have every reason to be confident of avenging that result tonight.

Doucoure’s comments are inspiring for Everton fans to hear.

They are indicative of a true grit and desire in the squad’s mentality to not just settle for being in the latter stages of competitions but to go the distance and have silverware to show for it.

matchday.
