Allardyce calls on fans to give Bolasie time

Everton boss Sam Allardyce has called on fans to have patience with Yannick Bolasie.

The 28-year old DR Congo international ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in December of 2016, which sidelined him for a year.

Since his return, the tricky winger has turned in mixed performances, and has come under fire by a large section of the Everton fan base.

Despite his struggles this season, Allardyce says it is something to expect given his long injury lay-off, and has asked fans to have patience with the former Crystal Palace man. Allardyce said;

I see an adverse reaction from every crowd.

If you do a pass wrong there’s a negative reaction, if you do a pass right there’s a positive reaction.

Your cruciate ligament, like many long-term injuries… when they come back they’re expected to be what they were before the injury. While fit it sometimes takes a little bit longer for some than others.

It’s taken Yannick a little bit longer to get in his stride, on the reverse of that it hasn’t taken Seamus Coleman quite as long.

We have to just be patient and allow him to get back to his best but the more he plays, the better he’ll get.

Bolasie has only played in 12 Premier League games this season, due to his injury and lack of form, scoring his first goal of the season last month against Manchester City.
