Allardyce to discuss derby spat with Rooney

Everton boss Sam Allardyce will talk with Wayne Rooney this week to discuss his reaction to being substituted in last weekend’s Merseyside derby.

According to Sky Sports, Rooney will sit down this week with Allardyce to discuss his reaction, which happened on only 57 minutes in the goalless draw.

Allardyce told talkSPORT. that he understood why Wayne was frustrated with being substituted, considering his long-held passion for the club.

Wayne’s disappointment was frustration at the fact of being an Evertonian through and through – he’s been an Evertonian all his life, he made his debut for Everton when he was 16, he was playing in a great big derby match against Liverpool on his own park and he got substituted by the manager.

That was too much for him to take and he had to show his frustration. We’ll sit down in the next week and we’ll talk it through and we’ll see how he feels. I’m sure he’s calmed down a little bit now.

Allardyce did confirm that Rooney does have a future at the club, despite the incident.

Everton would draw 0-0 in the derby, with the Blues having several good chance to win the game, but were unable to find the cutting edge.
