Former Everton man Michael Ball believes Andre Gomes’ return will be like a new signing for the club.
The Portugal international missed the Premier League losses against Bournemouth, Sheffield United and Manchester City through a rib injury, and he only managed the final six minutes against Burnley in the club’s last fixture.
Everton currently reside in the relegation zone after their torrid run of form, and many have looked to Marco Silva as they culprit behind the club’s failings.

However, Ball believes that Gomes’ loss has been a big one for the Toffees, and his return could prove to be a massive turning point in Everton’s season.
Writing in his latest column for the Liverpool Echo, Ball said:
When Andre Gomes is playing he’s probably head and shoulders one of our best players.
A new face and someone a little bit fresher and eager to get on the front foot is something we’ve been lacking. When I talk about leadership I don’t mean someone screaming and shouting I mean someone demanding the ball and asking questions of the opposition.
Gomes has shown that and he can unlock defences with his ability. Fingers crossed he can bring some fresh air into our team.

In theory, Gomes reintroduction could prove to be a huge benefit to Everton, who have undoubtedly missed the midfielder in his absence.
However, if the Gomes that played against Aston Villa is the one to return to the Everton fold, then we have a different situation entirely.
Ultimately Ball is right in that Gomes is one of the better players Everton have at their disposal. However, it all depends on how he performs on the day, and the performance levels of the teammates around him
