Ben Godfrey Encapsulates Winning Mentality in Push for Europe [Opinion]

Speaking to the Everton club website, summer signing Ben Godfrey has revealed the fighting spirit of the Everton dressing room – proving Ancelotti’s inspiring belief in his team.

Everton visit West Bromwich Albion on Thursday knowing they would climb to fourth in the standings with victory, with the Toffees just two points off the top four.

The traditional Premier League top six looks to be firmly disrupted with the likes of Leicester, Everton and West Ham usurping the European spots, whilst Arsenal and Spurs look more defined by mid-table mediocrity than the lofty heights of continental competition.

Other teams have games to follow the Baggies clash, so Everton’s stay is likely to be short-lived in residence at fourth spot, though the gravitas of a win against 19th-placed strugglers West Brom would nonetheless be a major signal of intent.

Godfrey proclaimed the catalytic effect of a win on Thursday:

“Everton is a huge club and we are ambitious, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to do well, so why not aim for those Champions League spots,” said Godfrey.

“All we can do is focus on ourselves and go into every game with the mentality of wanting to take three points, then see what happens at the end of the season”.

Everton experienced something of an unremarkable drop-off in form in the middle of the season following an unmarred run at the season’s opening.

He may have not been at Everton for long, but Godfrey knows what his new home is truly capable of. Everton’s confidence and bouncebackability is contagious at Goodison, of which Godfrey is the latest delightful victim.

“It would be wrong to say we’re not aiming for European qualification.

“We all want success and as long as we continue doing the same things and believing in ourselves there is no reason we shouldn’t achieve it.”

Godfrey encapsulates the spirit of the Blues with his grounded optimism – and that belief should get pulses racing in the blue half of Merseyside.
