Big Sam expects Sigurdsson to play again this season

Sam Allardyce has spoken and expects that Gylfi Sigurdsson will play for Everton again this season despite an injury, as per Sky Sports News.

The Iceland midfielder played the full match last weekend against Brighton & Hove Albion, which the Toffees won 2-0.

However, a knee injury in training made Everton make a statement on Wednesday which said that he would be out for between six to eight weeks, but Allardyce has said this is untrue.

The former England manager has said that Sigurdsson cold play for Everton again this season but is not going to put a precise timeline on the length of the injury, and there is a boost for him playing again this season and for Iceland at the World Cup.

Allardyce said in an interview (via Sky Sports News):

Whoever gave that statement out is going to get a right telling off because you cannot predict a length of injury in its entirety.

I’ve always felt it’s the wrong thing to do, to tag an injury for its time limits because people recover quicker than others.

For me, it’s how the injury is in the next two weeks. When you sustain a knee injury, there’s a settling down period immediately afterwards and then it’s how quickly the player recovers.

Gylfi’s motivation is to get back playing for us and for Iceland at the World Cup.

matchday.
