According to Daily Mail reporter Simon Jones, Burnley have expressed an interest in landing James McCarthy this summer – to replace the seemingly outgoing Steven Defour.
The report claims that the clubs have been holding talks over a proposed move for the Ireland international and it is stated that the player is keen to leave the club.
McCarthy’s recent campaign was thwarted with injury as he made just 12 league appearances for the Toffees.
Everton are said to be demanding a fee of £20million for the 26-year-old, ensuring that they make a profit on the £13million they paid to Wigan in 2013.
The two sides are reported to also be discussing the possibility of defender Michael Keane moving the other way – which suggests McCarthy could be used in a swap deal.
Burnley will have to fend off interest from other clubs however, with newly-promoted Newcastle and championship side Aston Villa understood to be interested.
