Carlo Ancelotti wanted Kieran Trippier at Napoli

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has been the subject of a major revelation after it was revealed that the tactician is an admirer of Kieran Trippier and  tried to sign the defender for Napoli.

According to Arena Napoli [via Sport Witness], the Toffees boss is an admirer of the Atletico Madrid right-back and made personal pleas to the Napoli hierarchy to sign him.

Journalist Valter de Maggio was speaking on radio to the source and made the revelation on Ancelotti’s respect for the player, saying:

Carlo Ancelotti recommended a player to Aurelio De Laurentiis, it was Trippier. The owner of the Azzurri, however, preferred not to make a move for the right-back.

Trippier can also act as a right midfielder and has a price tag of around 20 million.

With Seamus Coleman ageing and Jonjoe Kenny seemingly set for a move to Burnley, Everton will inevitably need to find a new right-back in the near future.

Ancelotti’s admiration for Trippier could resurface in a smart development as Marcel Brands will undoubtedly be working hard to identify transfer targets over the next few transfer windows.

The 30-year-old is currently serving a worldwide playing ban from FIFA for breaching gambling rules, keeping him out for the rest of the season.

Trippier could therefore be available cheaply in the summer as Atletico rue their losses, meaning the Toffees could poach the experienced home-grown talent cheaply.

Ancelotti’s interest ultimately opens up the potential for him to permanently push for the player, exacerbating the possibility of Everton lining up a move for Trippier in the summer.
