Clarification & Correction: Iliman Ndiaye / Al Hilal Report

Earlier this afternoon, we/I published an article reporting that Everton had agreed to sell Iliman Ndiaye to Al Hilal for €75m (£64m).

Unfortunately, this piece was based on a social media report from a fake account impersonating The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

There is currently no deal agreed between Everton and Al Hilal for Ndiaye, and the report was completely unfounded.

We pride ourselves on delivering accurate news and analysis to our readers, and on this occasion, we fell short of our own standards.

The original article has been removed, and we/I sincerely apologise for the error and any confusion caused.

Poor on my part. Apologies to Evertonians.

Gary is editor for ReadEverton. He has many years experience of sports writing behind him after deciding (belatedly) that the world of accountancy wasn't for him. His work has been featured on (among many others) BBC Sport and The Metro. He has written on many sports, but considers himself an expert in football and F1. When not writing and editing he likes to go to the cinema and sip a lovely cold pint of Guinness (not always at the same time).
