Coleman questions Everton’s heart after latest defeat

Everton captain Seamus Coleman has spoken of his unhappiness after the defeat to Southampton, questioning the attitudes of those around him.

The Blues lost 2-1 at St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon, leaving them 11th in the Premier League by the end of the weekend.

It was the latest setback in a season that has become increasingly frustrating, as questions begin to be asked of Marco Silva.

Everton have now only won two of their last 10 league matches, highlighting their alarming dip.

Speaking to the Independent, Coleman said he felt the performance was unacceptable, with improvements required:

They kind of out-battled us and that’s disappointing.

I’ve been here a long time and the minimum when you play for Everton is that you battle to the very end and keep fighting.

Unfortunately, today at times we weren’t good enough in that regard. They beat us to second balls a lot and that’s the biggest disappointment from our point of view.

We all have to look ourselves in the mirror and ask if we performed well enough or did enough for the shirt. I think a lot of us will say that we didn’t.

Everton’s next game is an FA Cup fourth round clash away to Millwall on Saturday evening.

They are looking for a first piece of silverware since winning the same competition back in 1995, with a victory potentially seeing some momentum return.

A promising summer in the transfer market led to much positivity at Goodison Park, but this season is not panning out the way supporters had hoped.
