Seamus Coleman was sent off for Republic of Ireland on Tuesday against Switzerland, meaning he has now been dismissed twice in his last three games for club and country.
The Irish captain was given his marching orders late in the second half for a second yellow, handling in the box to gift Switzerland a penalty, which was promptly saved by Darren Randolph.
Coleman’s form and immediate future as first choice right-back at Everton has frequently been under scrutiny from the club’s fan base, particularly with Djibril Sidibe waiting in the wings, and this will not have done the Irishman any good.
Following his dismissal, several fans took to social media to slam the Everton captain’s discipline, or lack thereof, claiming he is finished at an international level.

This really isn’t a good look for Seamus, but I don’t think it necessarily spells the end of his international career.
In fairness, I didn’t watch the Ireland game, so I can’t comment on his overall performance levels for the Boys in Green. However, his Everton sending off was stupid, and wasn’t a sign of him ageing more than it was his poor decision making and recklessness in the challenge.
You could argue that he has lot a step, but you could also wager that he had a particularly off game that won’t be repeated. Don’t get me wrong, I want Sidibe to start for the foreseeable future, but I wouldn’t completely write Coleman off as a liability.
