Everton are blessed to currently employ a manager who, at the very least, understands his club’s fan base and the hardship behind their loyal support week in and week out.
This was best exemplified on Wednesday night where following Everton’s 4-2 victory over Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup, Silva marched over to his players and ordered them to strip off and give their shirts to some of the near 2,000 travelling fans at Sincil Bank.
It was a nice gesture from the Everton manager who got his side back on track following their disappointing Premier League loss to Aston Villa last week.
However, not everyone saw the Portuguese coach’s act as altruistic, with talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy using his air-time to call out Silva for trying to paper over the cracks with fans who aren’t confident over his tenure and ability.
Cundy claimed that Silva had an “ulterior motive” for telling his players to thank fans and give away their shirts, also saying fans would be “stupid” not to understand the ‘true’ reason behind Silva’s manipulative actions.
Many Everton fans weren’t in agreement with the former Chelsea man however, and they took to Twitter to voice their opinion on the situation.

I was pretty clear about my stance on the matter on Twitter too, because Cundy’s comments are ludicrous. It has become this storm in a teacup nothing story, which reeks of desperation to fill air-time.
Silva has always shown fans the respect they deserve, which is more than most Everton managers, particularly Silva’s predecessor can say.
And as Cundy’s fellow presenter Andy Goldstein says, even if there was an ulterior motive, will young fans care? They’ve just seen their side win and they’ve taken a match-worn shirt home with them. Overblown and unnecessary, this story has no credence to it and wasn’t really worth discussing by talkSPORT.
