Moyes delivers blunt Everton verdict after Chelsea defeat

David Moyes admitted Everton “didn’t offer enough” after Chelsea ended their unbeaten Premier League start with a 2-0 victory at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Pedro Neto scored twice after the interval, breaking the deadlock less than a minute after the restart before adding his second in the 90th minute. Moyes felt Everton had competed for periods but acknowledged their lack of attacking threat was decisive.

“Not as good as we wanted,” Moyes told TNT Sports. “There were parts of the game we did OK, but mainly we didn’t offer enough to create enough and didn’t make enough chances.”

Moyes highlighted Thierno Barry’s first-half header as Everton’s clearest opportunity, admitting he could think of few others.

Moyes frustrated by decisions

The Everton manager was also unhappy with two first-half refereeing decisions. Harrison Armstrong was booked following a strong challenge on Josh Acheampong, while Morgan Rogers avoided a second yellow after catching James Garner.

“I thought Harrison had a great tackle,” Moyes said. “I thought it was the best part of the first half.”

He added that the Rogers challenge “could’ve been questioned” and felt Armstrong had been treated unfairly. Moyes, though, was clear about Everton’s biggest problem.

The hosts managed only six attempts – their fewest in a Premier League game since December – and failed to find a response after Neto’s opener. It leaves Everton looking for a reaction when they travel to Arsenal next weekend.
