David Moyes has used his programme notes ahead of today’s Manchester United game to issue another rallying call to Everton following a difficult end to the transfer window.
Moyes struck a positive tone during Friday’s press conference despite admitting his disappointment at Everton’s Deadline Day business.
And his message today follows a similar theme.
Moyes: We may need to pull together again
After saying goodbye to Beto, Tim Iroegbunam, Nathan Patterson and Iliman Ndiaye, Moyes thanked the departing players for helping to create a “strong culture” inside the dressing room.
He then welcomed Jack Grealish and Ainsley Maitland-Niles before looking ahead.
“Finally, I must stress the importance of us all pulling together,” wrote Moyes.
“We need to be strong again, and there may be occasions when we may have to find a way to get through some difficult moments.
“It is something you have all done in recent seasons. Everyone has pulled together for the good of the Football Club and we may need to do so again.”
Given everything that happened on Deadline Day, those words will not go unnoticed. But, just as he did on Friday, Moyes has chosen not to dwell on what went wrong. Instead, he is looking forward.
“We have made a good start and we are looking to build on that,” he added. “We all recognise the importance of early wins, and we will be giving everything to try to bring us another one today.”
After the week Everton have just had, beating Manchester United would be a decent way to finish it.
