Following the dismissal of Ronald Koeman on Monday afternoon, David Unsworth has taken charge of Everton on a caretaker basis.
The 44-year-old is set to be given a fair chance to impress as he aims to turn around Everton’s season, after what can only be described as a terrible start to the campaign.
Speculation has been rife surrounding who the next Toffees boss will be. When quizzed about whether or not Unsworth would like to become the Everton manager on a permanent basis, he couldn’t help but express his interest.
As quoted by the Telegraph, the Everton U23 boss discussed what the future may hold for him at the club.
Who wouldn’t want this job? It’s a top job for any manger, myself included. I want to manage. It’s an amazing to club to be manager of. I think the time has come to say that and make no secret of it.

The chairman and the board have given me an opportunity and a run of games. Hopefully performance levels go up. Results and performances will dictate my future as Everton manager.
Unsworth has done a stellar job with the young players at Everton since becoming the U23 manager. He has helped to develop several prospects, offering them a pathway to the first team.
It’s a very easy decision to make to step in. I spent Monday afternoon with chairman. We spoke to everything, about how many games, players, plans for the short team and long term. It’s not a difficult decision to do this if you are an Evertonian.
The chairman asked me to take it. He is going to speak to me every day. There’s been no points total or number of matches.
He kicks off his second reign as caretaker boss in the Carabao Cup against Chelsea on Wednesday evening.
