Derby fans call for Dowell to be sent back to Everton after loan spell turns sour

Kieran Dowell has suffered a serious dent to his Everton career this season after a really disappointing few months at Derby Country.

The 22-year old playmaker has struggled to make any impact at Pride Park since joining the club on a season-long loan in the summer, with the England youth international being relegated to Derby’s youth squad.

The former Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest man featured for Derby’s Under-23s against Leeds United’s U23s, where the Rams came out on top in a 7-1 thrashing.

Dowell failed to impress even at that level, with Derby’s younger players, particularly Louie Sibley, impressing much more than the Everton loanee.

Dowell has been frozen out by Derby boss Philip Cocu in recent months and his performance would not have helped his cause.

Given his quick decline this season, many Derby fans have been left questioning whether Dowell is worth holding on to, or whether the Rams should send him back to Merseyside in January, with a number of supporters sharing their thoughts on Twitter.

For me, I always thought that Dowell needed a Premier League loan this season. If he made it, great, and if he didn’t, then it was clear his future didn’t like with Everton.

Failing to impress in the Championship though is a really tough situation. We know he has ability at that standard, he ha shown it for Forest and for the Blades. But for whatever reason, Pride Park isn’t the ideal location for him this season.

It would be most beneficial if Dowell returned to Everton in January and then for the Toffees to find him another loan move. Hopefully that one would go better, then the club would need to take a hard look at his situation in the summer.
