Everton linked with surprise Douglas Luiz enquiry as Juventus stance emerges

Everton have reportedly joined the list of Premier League clubs exploring a move for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz this summer.

The story, first reported in Italy by Calciomercato and picked up by our friends at Goodison News, claims Juventus have received an enquiry from the Premier League over the Brazilian international as the Serie A giants weigh up his future.

While this latest report does not name Everton directly, the Blues have been consistently linked with Luiz in recent weeks as David Moyes looks to strengthen his midfield options ahead of the new campaign.

Luiz is understood to be available after a difficult spell in Turin following his move from Aston Villa. The 27-year-old struggled to establish himself at Juventus and has been tipped for a return to English football, with several Premier League clubs credited with an interest.

For Everton, the attraction is obvious.

Luiz has already proven himself in the Premier League, making more than 170 appearances for Aston Villa before his move to Italy. Comfortable in possession, capable of dictating the tempo and experienced at the highest level, he would bring qualities that would complement the Blues’ midfield rebuild.

Whether Everton decide to follow up their reported interest remains to be seen, particularly given the likely financial package involved.

But if the latest reports are accurate, Luiz is another name worth watching as Moyes continues to reshape his squad before the transfer window closes.
