Dutchman confirms move to Everton

PSV Eindhoven have confirmed Marcel Brands has left the club to join Everton as their new director of football.

The Dutchman is expected to take over the position that was held by Steve Walsh.

Walsh is expected to leave his post after a terrible set of transfers, which saw Everton spend the best part of £200m on signings that were, on the whole, very disappointing over the past season.

Clive Brunskill/Getty Images SportMarcel Brands has informed the supervisory board and his colleagues at PSV that he is leaving for Everton, said a statement from PSV.

The technical manager chooses for a new challenge in the Premier League after eight seasons in Eindhoven on June 1.

Brands said:

It is a very difficult decision, but I think this is a good step at the right time. The Premier League is of course a great thing. It is the biggest competition in the world in all respects. I now get the chance to do something in my own way. I am really looking forward to that.

Everton will be looking to get their manager in place and spend well this summer after what has been a disappointing season for the Merseyside club.

matchday.
