Eliaquim Mangala set for spell on sidelines

Everton defender Eliaquim Mangala is set to be out for a lengthy spell out of the team after sustaining a knee injury.

The Frenchman joined the Toffees on a loan until the end of the season in the hope of gaining more minutes following the arrival of Aymeric Laporte to the league leaders.

He suffered the injury in last week’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace, casting doubts over whether or not he will play again this season.

Some reports have gone as far to suggest that the injury is career-threatening, but the Everton medical staff are continuing their assessments on the player.

He has only played two games for the Toffees since his arrival and this will be a real disappointment for the Frenchman.

He had previously played 15 games this season for Manchester City but it was felt that it was best for him to go out on loan after falling out of favour.
