Emery unlikely to land vacant Everton job

Despite having held talks with Everton recently, former Arsenal boss Unai Emery now looks unlikely to become the club’s new manager, according to reports.

The Spaniard was sacked from his position at the Emirates Stadium last month after the Gunners suffered a run of seven games without a win, and since then the 48-year old has emerged as a possible target for the Blues.

While it was initially reported that Emery wanted time off, many more reports have claimed that Everton have held informal talks with the former Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla manager, with Emery said to be interested in the vacant managerial position at Goodison Park.

However, ESPN claim that Everton have not made an offer to Emery, and will likely now look to other targets as they continue searching for Marco Silva’s successor.

Carlo Ancelotti has emerged an another target for the Toffees, while David Moyes is still in contention to take over on a short-term basis.

Emery never really appealed to me personally as Marco Silva’s successor. If he couldn’t get Arsenal working in the way he wanted, I didn’t hold out much faith that he could rejuvenate this tired Everton squad.

It is interesting to know that Emery would be interested in the Everton role though. Of course, it is easy to say ‘of course he’s interested because he doesn’t have a job’, but the three-time Europa League winner still has the calibre to attract a number of sizeable clubs.

There is a split in the Everton fan base, with some expecting the Toffees to attract the biggest and brightest names, and others expecting many of those names to turn their nose up at the prospect of managing at Goodison Park. While Emery isn’t a top tier coach, it is still interesting to see how Everton are still perceived as an attractive prospect.
